Weirs losing run continued during the week but they at least managed to progress from the group stages of the West League Cup

On Wednesday Weirs suffered an agonizing close defeat against Clydesdale in the West League Cup. Weirs put their recent batting woes behind them to post a very respectable 140 off 20 overs, skipper David McCaig top-scoring with 39. But Clydesdale managed to reach the victory target of 141 with just one wicket and two balls to spare.

But the narrowness of Clydesdale's victory meant that they couldn't overhaul Weirs' run-rate advantage. So Weirs finished second in the group and go on to meet Uddingston in the Quarter Finals next week.

It will be a busy midweek for Weirs with 2 league games on Tuesday, the tie against Uddingston on Wednesday and the Glasgow Cup final against Helensburgh on Thursday.

24 hours earlier Weirs opened their Midweek League campaign. The midweek 1st XI game continued a depressing recent pattern of low batting scores as Weirs were bowled out for just 86 against Queens Park who reached the target comfortably.

The 2nd XI had a victory (of sorts) against East Kilbride who were unable to raise a team.
