Both Weirs teams enjoyed league wins on Saturday but the club exited the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

At Marress on Saturday Irvine batted first but were skittled out for just 74 by Weirs. Irfan Shah (5-12) and Richard Young (3-3) did most of the damage with only Irvine's pro, Chaudhary (42), really offering any resistance.

A target of 75 to win shouldn't have provided any problems for Weirs, especially after a decent opening stand of 30 between Russell Murray and Chris Smith. But Weirs managed to make life difficult for themselves, giving away wickets carelessly. Weirs eventually got over the line for the loss of 7 wickets. Chaudhary followed up his batting performance with 5 wickets with the ball.

At Albert Park the home team had a convincing win over Marress. Albert Park batted first and racked up 239. Neil Greenwood opened the innings and was last man out for a solid 77. Sherali Afazal (25) and Aqib Raja (29) also contributed. Marress really struggled in reply and were bowled out for just 25. Aqib Raja (4-12) and Sherali Afzal (3-11) did the damage with the ball. A 214 run margin of victory must represent some kind of record for the Weirs 2nd team.

Unfortunately Weirs couldn't follow up their good Saturday performances in the Scottish Cup against East Kilbride on Sunday. Weirs put in a respectable effort with the ball, holding the visitors to 198 for 6 off 45 overs (the match was reduced after a delayed start due to a damp pitch). Former Weirs player Moneeb Iqbal scored 63 with Singh making 85 for East Kilbride.

But the Weirs top order collapsed completely in reply. Weirs were 2-4 and then 11-6 in the face of some accurate East Kilbride bowling. The tail wagged a bit to bring the final total up to 77 and give some respectability to the final score but it was an indication of far Weirs still have to go to match the best teams in the west.
