Both Weirs teams lost yet again on Saturday...but at least the 2nd XI managed to keep their game quite close.

At Albert Park Weirs 1st XI faced Stenhousemuir. The visitors batted first and compiled 203 for 5 in 50 overs. This was mainly thanks to a century from their South African pro Rushdi Jappie. He was very fortunate to survive an appeal for a catch down leg side early in his innings but took full advantage to lead his team to a decent score.

Predictably, given the way this season has gone, Weirs never threatened to chase down the target and were bowled out for 111, completing a 92 run defeat.

At the Tryst the home side batted first against Albert Park. New Weirs recruit Manoj Mohanraj made an immediate impression with the ball, capturing 4 early wickets as the Tryst fell to 31-4. A good stand for the 5th wicket started to take the game away from Albert Park though and although there was a late tumble of wickets the Tryst's total of 122 looked slightly too high for Albert Park's thin batting line-up to chase. Manoj finished with 7 for 37, an outstanding performance on his Weirs debut.

In reply, Neil Greenwood battled through the pain barrier of his 50 year old hamstrings to make a defiant 44. But he lacked support at the other end and Albert Park were always behind the run rate. They eventually finished their 40 overs on 108 for 8, 15 runs short of the victory target.
