For the 2nd year running Weirs "Asian Babes" emerged victorious in the completion, beating out Weirs in the final. Here's hoping that they can do a better job of engraving the trophy this year than they did last!
As always, six teams took part in the competition. And despite intermittent rain, sometimes quite heavy, all the scheduled matches were played. It's an important fund raiser for the club so thanks go out to all those who played and attended and especially to those who helped to organize the day.
The Sixes were a happy end to what had been a disappointing weekend for Weirs. On Saturday at Albert Park, First Division leaders West of Scotland clearly showed the gulf in quality between themselves and Weirs, recording a comprehensive 120 run victory. With 3 games to go Weirs are still not entirely clear of relegation and need 1 more win to be safe.
It was much closer in the 2nd XI game at Torrance House. In a game reduced to 35 overs a-side because of a late start the home team batted first and compiled 135 for 9 off their 35 overs. Albert Park generally bowled and fielded well but bowled 28 wides that would come back to haunt them later.
In reply, Albert Park were reduced to 24 for 4 with Steven Mann taking 3 for 9 for Torrance House. But then a fine partnership of 80 between Alistair Gibson and Brendon Hillyard threatened to win the game for Albert Park. Unfortunately, once Brendon was out for a fine 52 the innings fell apart in a flurry of bizarre run-outs and Albert Park fell agonizingly short, all out for 131.
