On a cold, but sunny day, the Minis section did the Club proud in all age groups. With 8 to 10 teams in each Age Group, over 500 players turned out in the excellent facilities at Ivel.
The U7 played their first ever tournament, winning 2, but losing 3, and scorting 24 tries in the process. Sadly their 3rd place in the Group did not let them progress.
The U8 lost out in the Semi-Final to a heart-breaking Golden try, having set the pace in their qualifiers.
The U9, in their first contact competiton, tackled admirably, and lost only in a close fought Final.
The U10 were totally dominant, winning the overall Final, conceding just 1 try, and scoring 20 in return in their 5 games.
The U11 were equally dominant, and again won the Final, with a ruthless 5-1 win over Ivel, the backs showing great pace and awareness.
The U12, by far the smallest physical side in their Age, lost their first Group game to a rejuvenated Burnham (who wnet on to win), but fought back to win and qualify for the Semi, where they lost a tight match 2-1.
Congratulations to all players and coaches on an outstanding set of results across the Board, and all done with a smile on faces too! A credit to the Club in the way they approached and played.
I would like to add my personal thanks to all my U9 parents, coaches and players. It was a day to be very proud of everyone involved with Wellington RFC
