Torquay were far too good for Wellington in the backs and could have posted an even higher score.
Wellington had the edge up front at times but could do little with their possession.
Torquay started the match firing on all cylinders and caught Wellington napping. Fly-half James Wood kicked two penalties inside the first five minutes and then converted a rty from scrum-half Alex Jeffrey who finished off a touchline run by Adam Chadwick. The winger then touched down himself after a back line move. Woods added a penalty before Wellington finally got back into the game.
The second quarter was more even but Wellington were unable to score to leave the Tics leading 21-0 at the interval.
After the re-start Torquay immediately increased their lead with a try under the posts by hooker Steve Mabin. The try was converted by Woods.
Welly finally hit back with hooker Rob Maughan and number 8 Chris Kitto both powering over from five metre scrums. Fullback Mark Nichols converted one of these.
Wood then killed off any hopes of a Wellington comeback with three tries from distance to make the three points certain for the Tic’s.
