Clevedon 29 Wellington 5

Sadly Clevedon adapted to the conditions much more quickly.

After playing for the past six weeks or so in warm firm conditions that suited a free flowing style of rugby, a cold, wet, windy Clevedon required a more dogged approach. Sadly Clevedon adapted to the conditions much more quickly, and a score virtually from the kick off by the hosts with the wind at their backs put Wellington firmly on the back foot.
Unable to break out of their half Wellington struggled to hold their own but Aaron Chugg, and Kes Hitchcock did much good work before picking up injuries. With defence being the order of the day Welly worked really hard but conceded to more tries to make it 19-0 before the forwards started to rumble and finished the half camped on the Clevedon line.
With the wind at their back Welly continued to do well using the rolling maul to good effect to make yards
It was from a line out on the Clevedon ten metre line that Welly caught and drove that they showed great skill and body position to drive fully 30 metres for prop Ryan Marke to score.
Clevedon came back hard but excellent cover tackling from Ben Hayman and Big Joe Dyke kept them at bay until the final five minutes when tiredness crept in and Clevedon scored two more tries.
