The deal is worth £15,000 plus add ons and marks the end of Pugh's current spell at Park View Road.
The transfer had been drawn out since the beginning of January because of a knee injury but Jamie Day confirmed in a post match interview that the medical was taking place today.
The ex-Gillingham striker has been in sensational form for Welling this season scoring 15 goals in the league and winning the PotM award three times out of five. Pugh had this to say on his departure
"Welling have given me a great opportunity and I'd like to think that I have given them a lot back and scored some vital goals."
"I want to thank everyone at Welling who has believed in me - from Jamie and the coaching staff down to the fans - and I'm sure they know I have given them everything I could."
"I'm sure under Jamie Day they will be fine and carry on fighting for the play-off spots."
Jamie Day had nothing but praise for the Wings' ex star striker.
"Andy has been excellent since signing for us. He has been a pleasure to work with [and] he has a great attitude."
"I know all the management and boys wish him all the best of luck at Cambridge."
It has been a real treat watching Andy playing for Welling United, and he fully deserves this chance to show his skills at the higher level of the game.
He has shown us all what a great player he is, both on and off the field of play, and has always shown a professional attitude, combined with a willingness to learn, both week in week out. Good luck Andy.
Best of luck Andy, I am certain you will enjoy a wonderful career in football
Excellent news well done Andy. Go show them what you've got x
good luck andy
good luck andy
Good luck Pughie, i am sure Cambridge is only a stepping stone onto at least the Championship.
Whilst we are all dissapointed to lose Pughie, we have Loick and Luis who are both equal to any other of the top strikers in this league at least. Warren McBean too when fit.
Coyw
good luck Pugh
