Welling move to second after hard fought win

Difficult conditions made life difficult going forward for both sides but a solitary goal from Luis Cumbers sealed the points.

Loick Pires returned after two weeks out with a knee injury to replace Ryan Dolby with Obersteller making the bench. Loui Fazakerley resumed his duties at right back with Andy Sambrook moving into midfield.

In blustery conditions, chances were at a premium for both sides but Pope and Lovelock did had to make good saves from Adam Bygrave and Pires.

Greenhalgh replaced Cracknell in an attempt to break the deadlock and the Wings began to control the game with shots from Fazakerley, Parkinson and Cumbers all troubling the visitors' goal.

And Welling finally broke down the wall as Lee Clarke played in Luis Cumbers who calmly tucked the ball away although the Farnborough claimed there had been a foul in the build up.

Things got worse for the away team as Bergqvist collected his second yellow card of the game for a angry reaction with Pires on 83 minutes.

Welling finished the match strongly but couldn't add a second to consolidate the victory.

Day will be happy with the home performance and will be encouraged after Welling's rivals Chelmsford lost to Staines. The two will face each other next week at Park View Road but first up is a trip to Dover on Tuesday in the Kent Senior Cup.
