An update from new manager Ryan Morris

This summer was always going to be a busy one for Wells City A team. With a completely new management team consisting of Ryan Morris and Andy Goswell, as well as retaining the services of Simon Barlow, the A team is in the best condition it has been for quite some time. Our aim is simple, to produce a squad of players good enough to play reserve team level. With some very promising under 18's, some experienced additions as well as the core group from last season we believe we are a lot stronger than the A team of last season.
The preseason could not have gone any better in my opinion, with a couple very good training sessions and three cracking performances in the friendlies. A draw against the reserves showed us that the players have got the determination and discipline to get a result against a very good side. That performance was a sign of things to come, as in the next friendly the team battled back from a goal down to beat Belrose 2-1. The icing on the cake came last Tuesday as a brilliant team performance against Evercreech, which produced a high tempo, energetic performance with excellent ball retention and some brilliant finishing. Final score was a 12-0 victory, which left the lads slightly down hearted as it could have easily been more.
As the league season is approaching, preseason has provided a headache for the three of us. We have seen well over 30 players, all of whom contributed massively to the successful preseason and I will aim to use all during the course of the season. We are confident that the A team is now a team which the club can be proud of, and is now a real asset to the reserves and 1st team management in case they ever want to have a look at anyone.
We kick off the season away at Welton Arsenal, a tough start, but I’m sure that the momentum can just roll on to Saturday.
I would finally like to thank Mark, John, Steve and Stuart for their input and guidance during training sessions and Barry Maynard for sorting out all the signing on forms and friendlies for us. Here’s to a good season....
