Wells City U11 V Mid Somerset RTC

7th October 2017

Wells win toss and kick off in the rain.

Wells make comfortable start with good passing in wet and drizzly conditions.

The balls goes out for a Wells corner, Joe Hood gets his head on it but not accurate enough.

Wells attack up the wing and a cross in from William Birch to George Birch and he put the ball in the away cleanly

Goal 1-0 Wells - Somerset

Its a Somerset throw and they are looking to get back in the game, and the ball goes for a Somerset corner, the ball comes in and ricochets off a Wells defenders head into the Wells net.

Goal 1 - 1Wells - Somerset

Somerset press forwards and the pass forward is good and the forward beats the Wells defence, Daniel Cross comes out of his box and handles the ball just outside his area, and the referee awards Somerset a free kick just outside the Wells box.

The Somerset free kick is hit well but the shot goes over the bar.

Wells push back and the ball goes out to a corner, the corner ball comes in and Joe Hood gets on the end of it but the shot goes over the bar.

Its changing ends rapidly in the soaking rain and Somerset put a ball out wide and a great cross in finds his man but the shot is high.

Somerset are back on the attack and the shot comes in hard, Joe Hood goes to flick the ball of the line but the attempt only goes to push the ball into the back of the net.

Goal 1 -2 Wells - Somerset

Somerset are using the whole pitch and moving the ball out wide with ease and there is another competent goal for Somerset.

Goal 1 - 3 Wells - Somerset

Wells don’t want to go down here and a brilliant cross in from William Birch sees George Stevens tap it home.

Goal 2 -3 Wells - Somerset

Somerset want to make it 4 but are stopped by Joe Flagg, who then plays the ball forwards to George Birch who then plays George Stevens on who scores again to level the scores.

Goal 3 -3 Wells - Somerset

Break 1/4

Its end to end in the soaking weather and a long shot from Alfie Stocker goes just wide.

A brilliant run down the wing from William Birch ends in nothing and Somerset counter attack.

Wells are awarded a free kick but nothing comes of the result as the Somerset defence have it covered.

Somerset press forwards but George Stevens tracks back and stops them in their tracks, but the ball goes out for a Somerset corner.

There is a fast moving attack from Wells and Milan Messemer finds the side netting. Wells press again but this time Milan Messemer makes no mistake to put Wells ahead.

Goal 4 -3 Wells - Somerset

Somerset don’t like being behind and start a series of attacks with great balls spreading the play wide and down the wings, Somerset number 16 makes a great move but his shot goes over the bar.

Somerset continue to fox Wells and have the defence beaten for pace ending in a great attack and goal and the scores are level again.

Goal 4 -4 Wells - Somerset

A wells free kick comes in and there is a bit of a scramble but there are a lot of Somerset shirts in the box and the ball is safe.

Again somerset are great going wide but the finish isn’t made.

George Birch battles his way in and eventually due to his tenacity the ball bobbles in over the keeper and Wells are ahead again.

Goal 5 -4 Wells - Somerset

Wells push again but are held back by Somerset for a Wells corner.

The ball comes in and a great looping header by Joe Hood puts Wells two clear.

Goal 6 -4 Wells - Somerset

Break 2/4

Wells free kick is playing too much at the Somerset defence and the ball is headed clear.

Wells are offside and Somerset take advantage for a counter attack, Wells are more organised at the back and the ball is back with Wells.

Somerset don’t want to go down easily and Alfie Lott works really hard and stops some fast paced attacks.

Wells aren’t happy with 6 and George Birch first and then Milan Messemer find the side netting.

Final Wells complete an attack and George Steven palls a ball through and George Birch make another skilful finish.

Goal 7 -4 Wells - Somerset

Somerset art dead yet and they throw players forward and after a bit of a scramble they score and start to come back.

Goal 7 - 5 Wells - Somerset

George Stevens holds up the play and plays an intelligent ball back to Alfie Stocker who then plays a long ball forwards to George Birch, but the Somerset defence hold fast.

Somerset seem ready to score again and a lot of Wells passes are intercepted but Wells get a breather as the whistle for a break goes.

Break 3/4

At the restart Joe Flagg shows great feet and recovers Wells from a strong Somerset attack.

Wells counter and the cross in goes to Milan Messemer who chips the ball into the box for George Birch who as ever finishes with no hesitation.

Goal 8 - 5 Wells - Somerset

Somerset are still alive and kicking and the number 14 finds space and makes a great finish

Goal 8 - 6 Wells - Somerset

Somerset have all the possession and play passing the ball around and find another goal to start to get close/

Goal 8 - 7 Wells - Somerset

Wells look pressed and lacking energy, but find something to move forwards and there are 3 successive corners, George Birch who loves scoring finds the touch and scores again

Goal 9 - 7 Wells - Somerset

Wells press again looking to extend the lead and make it certain the cross comes in and there are loads of blue shirts in the area but William Perring makes it his and slots the ball into the net making the Wells lead look unassailable.

Goal 10 - 7 Wells - Somerset

Wells keep possession and George Stevens tries a late shot but the keeper makes a solid save.

The whistle blows and Wells make it over the line, its not a pretty performance from Wells but tenacity makes sure they stay on top.
