U14 win in JPL Cup
2 wins from 2 in the JPL Cup
Wells welcomed South Gloucester to a wet and drizzily Wookey ground. The pitch was in good condition and suited both teams who like to play football. Both sides started the game well and the passing and movement of both teams was excellent. Both teams were solid at the back and as a result few chances on goal materialised. It was South Gloucester who scored first with a long range shot out wide on the right Jones struck the ball really well and it went in to the top left corner. This goal seemed to spur the Wells team on and they were gradually building their passing game. The combination of Murrell and Ascott down the right hand side for Wells always looked dangerous with their pace and skill. Although Wells were building their attacks regularly they could not quite get that split second more they need to score due to some resolute defending by South Gloucester. The first half ended with Gloucester a goal up.
The second half started as the first half with these two evenly match sides testing each other and the Wells defence always looked in control with Stone at left back in particular looking solid in the tackle and used the ball well in attack. Midway through the second half Wells were awarded an obvious penalty and Fowler slotted it away nicely. The scores being level both sides were pushing for that next decisive goal and with 8 minutes to go Wells built a good attack down the right again and crossed the ball it to the goalmouth to Fowler who passed to Ambrosini who struck a left foot shot in to the goal.
With Wells two goals to one up they started to close the game out. South Gloucester never gave up and in the final minute built some good pressure in the Wells half and ensured that the Wells defence could not switch off. The game finished two one to Wells.
Both teams played some good football and were a credit to their respective clubs considering the competitive and evenly matched nature of the game.
