Pool start season with away win at Trefyclawdd
Trefyclawdd 17-28 Welshpool.
Welshpool's men began the 2012-13 season with a 28-17 victory over a hard-working Trefyclawdd side, in a stop-start affair.
Welshpool took the early initiative, with tries from Gareth Gregory, Andrew Thomas and Tom Carter along with three Daley Jones conversions giving them a 21-3 lead by the end of the first quarter.
However, with Trefyclawdd battling hard to get themselves back into the game, and inconsistent refereeing stopping the game from getting any flow, the visitors were unable to extent their advantage any further before half-time, and the home side were able to narrow the gap with a try of their own, making it 10-21 at the interval.
As both teams began to get frustrated with the officiating, players began to take the law into their own hands, resulting in several scuffles and yellow cards being issued to both sides.
Welshpool furthered their lead in the third quarter with a spectacular try in the corner from full-back Steve Cross, which was excellently converted by Daley Jones, making the scoreling 10-28.
As the game passed into its dying moments, the home side were able to gain some reward for their efforts, crossing the line in the last play of the game, but they had to settle for a 17-28 defeat.
