This Weekend's Fixtures

Two important home fixtures to complement Six Nations viewing

Welshpool's 1st XV (6th, P13 W6 L7) face Flint (5th, P12 W7 L5) in a rearranged fixture this Saturday, and will be hoping to close the gap between the top and bottom half of the table.

With three more home fixtures to play, as well as two tough away fixtures, the team have set their sights on a top five finish, but will be well aware that victory in this match is vital if this is to be achieved.

Since their win over Welshpool in late November, Flint have had mixed fortunes, having won once and lost twice in the league, and will be keen to keep themselves in fifth place.

Elsewhere in the league, unbeaten Shotton Steel (2nd, P11 W11 L0) will be looking to retake the top spot when they travel to Harlech (4th, P11 W7 L4). Current leaders Rhos (1st, P14 W11 L3) are without a fixture, and so can only hope for an upset to keep them four points clear - in the match between the two sides earlier in the season, Shotton ran out 69-15 winners.

Bottom club Bangor (10th, P13 W0 L13) host Llangollen (3rd, P12 W10 L2), who will be trying to catch up with the top two sides. At present, they are seven points behind Shotton, but 13 clear of Harlech, so will no doubt be undecided as to whom they would like to see picking up the victory in that encounter!

And finally, Benllech (8th, P11 W3 L8) host Menai Bridge (7th, P12 W5 L7) in a fixture that could have serious implications for Welshpool. Should both Welshpool and Menai Bridge win, they will stay within a point or two of each other. A slip-up from Menai and a Welshpool win, however, would help to consolidate Welshpool's place in 6th. When the two sides met earlier in the season, Menai were the victors, but only by 9-5, so there will no doubt be more than a few honorary Benllech supporters in the Welshpool clubhouse tomorrow afternoon.

On Sunday, Welshpool's Under 16s will make their long-delayed debut, as they host Hawick Albion Under 16s in a midday kick-off.

The town of Hawick is one of the most famous names in Scottish rugby, with the town having produced a total of 58 Scottish internationals, including such famous names as Colin Deans and Colin Telfer, and Welshpool are pleased to play host to a side from this town.

The club reformed our Under 16s team before Christmas, under the leadership of veteran player and coach Pete 'Pud' Davies. The bad weather has taken a toll on their fixture list, with games being called off for the last three weeks. Anyone who can come down to support the boys in their first match will be more than welcome.

The clubhouse will be open for all three Six Nations matches this weekend. On Saturday, the bar will be open after the First XV fixture, and on Sunday, the bar will be open from midday.

DUE TO THE BAD WEATHER, GAMES MAY BE CALLED OFF, AND OPENING TIMES MAY CHANGE. WE WILL ENDEAVOUR TO POST ANY INFORMATION ON THIS WEBSITE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN THE EVENT OF ANY CHANGES.
