Welshpool Women 7-12 Llangollen Women
Narrow defeat in hugely entertaining match
Welshpool's Women fell to a narrow defeat against Llangollen in the Game On League in a tight and keenly fought match at Maesydre.
Both teams played the game with a huge amount of commitment and no small amount of skill, with both sides looking to play plenty of rugby.
The home side were the first off the mark with a try from Ellie Davies after fifteen minutes, which she then converted to give them a 7-0 lead. However, Llangollen fought back and crossed for a score of their own five minutes later, to bring them back to within two points at 7-5.
With Welshpool reduced to fourteen players after a yellow card for Lauren Davies, Llangollen were able to take advantage of their numerical superiority to cross for their second try, which was converted to give them a 7-12 lead at half time.
Despite the lack of points in the second half, the game could have gone either way, with both sides having opportunities to score. With nerves jangling, Welshpool suffered their second yellow card of the day, given to Natalie Higgins, with around twelve minutes to go, before Llangollen found themselves down to fourteen as well shortly after. Despite this, neither side could break the other down, and the score remained 7-12 at the final whistle.
