Under-strength 'Pool battle hard on the coast

A trio of tries inside the first 13 minutes for Harlech ensured that they ran out victors in their home clash with Welshpool.

After an early scare for the home side, when Jake Best knocked on whilst making an interception that would have surely lead to a try, Harlech scored three tries in quick succession, giving themselves a 19-0 lead after just 13 minutes.

However, fears that Welshpool were in danger of being overrun were not realised, with the under-strength visitors dominating the remaining 27 minutes of the half, but without managing to cross the Harlech line.

In a case of deja vu, Harlech began the second half as they had begun the first, with three tries in the first 15 minutes of the half giving them a 40-0 lead, with a further try after 65 minutes completing their scoring.

Welshpool, however, were in no mood to give up, and worked hard to cross the line twice in the last quarter, first through flanker-cum-winger Wayne Maguire, and then through prop Ben Aldis, with fly-half Daley Jones converting both scores.

This is another result that the team can look on with frustration and feel that they deserved at least a point from, as they enjoyed plenty of position and made lots of yards up-front, but were unable to convert this into points. However, Welshpool's pack have made a habit of finishing matches strongly, which is a testament to the hard work they have put in to improving their fitness, and it may only be a matter of time before results start to turn in Welshpool's favour.
