Coach: Az, Nia and Jack

The 2017 trip up North to the city of Matchstalk men and Matchstalk cats and dogs was its usual mass of activity. We were grouped with some strong sides and our squad was not as experienced as previous years but we were determined to do our best. Games were set out as two 8 minute halves with no shot clock this meant chances on goal needed to be taken.
Our first match was against the home team of Manchester which was a ping pong type of game with goals going back and forth. we eventually lost 7-6.
Next up was against a young Liverpool side who were weak defensively while we showed our goal scoring prowess. Won 9-1
Next up were two games back to back against Grantham and ST Bedes. The first we lost 4-5 but probably could have won and the final group game we lost 9-2.
The two play off games put us up against ST Ambrose which we lost 6-2. We beat Bolton B 7-5. Final placing 15.

This was a really good tournament for the youngsters who have never played on the big stage before. Every player stepped up to the plate without hesitation. What we lacked in speed and execution we countered with enthusiasm.

Also thank you to the young players outside Wanderers from Newport and elsewhere who made up the squad.
