Witnesses thought that the Battle of Britain was a firefight to be reckoned with. No disrespect, but those people would have reconsidered had they witnessed this single, epic game. Made devastatingly hard for the older and taller players because of its limited depth, this game proved just how resourceful and proficient that the junior players of the Welsh Wanderers can be.
1st quarter: Starting seven - Cox, Sanders, Griffiths (M), Chamberlain, Griffiths (C), Gillie, Murphy. The first quarter opened with Anthony winning the swim-off. It turned brutal really quickly, but was met with a solid and relentless defence by Matthew Griffiths. The Cwm Draig team proved efficient and unpredictable, but quickly suffered two brutal goals from the surface-to-air missile that is Anthony Cox, one from the clawed tigress that is Nia Sanders and one from the sniper rifle that is Matthew Griffiths. We achieved a perfect run in the first quarter, with not one goal penetrating Stanley's sharp and lightning defences.
2nd quarter: Starting seven - Hamer, Sanders, Griffiths, Gillie, Griffiths (C), Delf. The second quarter saw the opposition fuming from losing the upper hand, as evidenced by their unexpectedly fiery strategies and them achieving two narrow goals. This unfortunate chink in our armour was repaired by the superhuman offensive that was played Emma Gilli and Dan Evans, while Matthew, Cael and Anthony, gave us a total of four goals, before Matthew suffered a major foul. This section of the game quickly transformed into one of the most intense metaphorical chess-games of all time, with the rooks that are Chamberlain and Hamer, and the knights that are Griffiths (C) and Sanders providing a staunch, formidable defence that skilfully ensured we survived the second quarter unsurpassed.
3rd quarter: Starting seven - Cox, Griffiths (C), Abramovich, Evans, Sanders, Gillie, Murphy. The third quarter likened the intensity of the first quarter to that of a Sunday walk in the park. This quarter saw

the once-reluctant left-hander Shad Stones entering the game for the first time all night alongside Nimrod Abramovich and Libro Sorentino and, though providing no goals for us, showed an inspirationally effective style of play. Though, the more experienced pieces on the aquatic chessboard took an immense pounding from Cwm Draig, who scored two goals despite the superb defences from Stanley Murphy. We were eventually pulled into a nail-biting man-down situation, which brought the true meaning of teamwork into our players' minds, and we still achieved two goals from Sanders and Griffiths (C), which pulled us even further ahead of our opponent.
4th quarter: Starting seven - Griffiths (M), Libro, Griffiths (C), Hamer, Sanders, Gillie, Delf. The fourth quarter went leaps and bounds ahead of the ferocity of all of its predecessors, judging from the literally roaring crowd that observed us from above like the Olympian Gods. The Nemean Lioness that is Anna Delf proved to have talent of unprecedented supremacy and took sheer cannon shots from Cwm Draig's Herculean players. Ceri Griffiths scored us two goals, proving beyond worthy of his New Year reputation as the Robin of the Welsh Wanderers, alongside the sure shot that is Nia Sanders, who each scored us two goals on level with those which brought down the Death Star. The game reached a spectacular conclusion with us winning the game 14 to 6.
Summary: This game had a brilliant turnout for the Welsh Wanderers Junior team, made intense and unpredictable by the shallow waters and the ferocity of our opponent. Undeniably, this thrilling clash brought out the almost-unrivalled skill and dedication of our younger players, and the unrelenting talent of our older players. Special thanks to Russ Thomas for his messianic directing of this team, and to Darrel Ward for providing us with an excruciatingly difficult team to play against. Personally, I believe that, though the Cwm Draig have singed us in the past, they still haven't burnt us.
