Welsh Wanderers Juniors concluded their Bristol and West campaign with a home draw against league champions Exeter. At one stage, Wanderers looked as if they were going to snatch the league title, with the 4 goal lead that they required. However, a superb last quarter from Exeter denied the 98's the chance to win the title.

The game started well for the Juniors, with a big emphasis on taking the game to the away side. Lloyd Pittick thundered a shot into the bottom corner, and Joe Delf added another long shot. Exeter pulled back a goal just before the end of the quarter, to make it 2-1.
As Wanderers raced into a lead in the second quarter, with goals from Cael Chamberlain, Pittick and Delf, the momentum swung in the favour of Wanderers. Even though Exeter grabbed another one, Wanderers looked likely to snatch the title.
The half-time switch around proved costly, as the Sun played a big part in the Wanderers attack, with the conditions making it extremely difficult to see, whilst defending and attacking. Exeter, with no restraints, managed to pull back another goal, cutting the lead down to 2 goals. Wanderers on the other hand, were unable to break through in this quarter, making the score 5-3 after 3.
With the league in the balance, the final quarter would reflect all the hard work of the last 9 months. And despite not getting the result they wanted, Wanderers gave the performance which showed their resiliance, determination and passion for the final time. As Exeter pulled the game back to 5-5, Wanderers rallied, with Hugh Spencer restoring the lead at 7-5. As Exeter came again , with an improved defence tactic implemented, Wanderers gave their all, knowing how close they were to achieving the ultimate goal. Exeter and Joe Delf exchanged a pair of goals each, before the visitors got another two, to clinch a 9-9 draw.
It was an unfortunate ending to a fantastic season for the team, with 10 wins, a draw and a defeat from their 12 games. Although scoring 204 goals , 64 of these by the lethal Delf, Wanderers' main strength was in defence, conceding only 87 goals in the whole season. Huge credit going to goalkeeper Jack Sanders on that front. A massive thank you also to the players who did not feature in the Exeter match, who showed brilliant sportsmanship to give Wanderers a better chance of victory.

Throughout the season, Wanderers have performed briliantly, and the team has enjoyed a fantastic experience. As the competition changes from 1998 to 1999 next season, the team will lose a few members, such as Connor Pearce, Hugh Spencer, Emma Pearn, Tom Griffiths and Max Shepherd. We would like to thank these players for their efforts in the team this season, and the best of luck for their progression into the senior divisions of the Bristol and West League. we now hand over to the 99's in their quest to bring the BWWWPL Title to Cardiff International Pool!
