Coach: Russ Thomas
This was the big one as far as the BWWPL is concerned. Exeter were the the last team to beat us over 12 months ago. They are our main rivals for the title and boast 6-7 GB players plus the 99 GB coach. We had a strong side but our bench was very thin and a lot of our team had already played two games fourteen hours earlier.
1st Quarter
We started out very well. Our marking was tight, our defending was excellent, Sanders was outstanding. Goals came smoothly. 3-0 Goals: Delph (2) Chamberlain
2nd Quarter
We played even better. Pittick controlled the back Griffiths (M) controlled the middle and Delph kept the goals coming. 6-1 Goals:Delph (3)
3rd Quarter
We started to tire. Rotation was difficult but we kept battling as they crept back into the game. 8-4 Goals : Delph (2)
4th Quarter
Now it was their turn. We held on for as long as we could but they had the larger bench and it began to show. The final minutes were extremely close. At one point it looked like we going to lose the game but everyone particularly Sanders held on for a well deserved draw. 8-8
At the start of the game I think we would have taken a draw. Considering the players we had missing we did very well against a very good team.
Special Mention:
Emma who made her Wanderers debut.
Everyone for never giving in.
Next game: Sunday 11th October Home to Plymouth
