Welton go into the new season with a settled squad for the first time in 3 years. The early parts of the past two seasons have been blighted by high player turnover but this year tells a very different story, with only one player from the squad that completed last season having departed.
Key players like last year's top scorer Aaron Seviour, skipper Joe Garland and young player of the season Aaron Cockerill have all signed on for the 2017/18 season, enthusiastic about the progress the club is making. The entirety of the 2016/17 season saw manager Clive Scott rebuilding a decimated squad following the club's relegation from the Premier Division. It's to his and assistant Mark Brown's credit that they have brought together a loyal group of players who are invested in the Welton project.
Notable new signings come in the form of goalkeeper Tom Drewitt (returning to the club after a spell at Chippenham Park), right back Alex Wych and Bradford duo Dylan Matt and Zac Berriman.
New signings are still expected to be made as players return from injury and summer holidays.
The only departure from the first team is goalkeeper Charlie Phillips who departs to compete for the Number One jersey at Bradford Town. We wish him the best of luck.
