West-buried by Welton
Rampant Welton roll on with 5-star victory over White Horses.
Match report by Bob Allard.
Welton made it three league wins on the trot with a top drawer performance in front of the ecstatic Green Army at West Clewes.
The action commenced in the 7th minute when a cross from the left by Welton was met by Welton's Jackson Hamilton with a looping header that settled in the back of the Westbury net. The visitors responded and a header from Daniel Price went close. Westbury equalised on 15 minutes when a well placed cross from fullback James Hounsell was met by former Welton player Martin Johnson, in space, and he made no mistake with his header. Welton were back in front two minutes later when good work down the left flank from Aaron Seviour saw him beat the offside trap and find Malick Jammeh in acres of room in front of the Westbury goal and he calmly slotted his effort into the visitor's net for his 7th goal in 7 games. It got even better for the Green Army on the half hour when a free kick on the left from Chris Pile was met by Grant Price who rose above the Westbury defence to head home from close range to make it number three for Welton, his first goal for the club. On the stroke of halftime Seviour made it four when he finished off in style a quality Welton attack with a very well taken goal.
The second half couldn't live up to the brilliant first half from Welton and the visitors rung the changes bringing on all three substitutes. The Welton defence held firm after the early onslaught from Westbury and on the hour it was game set and match for Welton after Westbury keeper Charlie Heydon raced out of his goal to thwart a Welton breakthrough with a good block however the ball fell to Seviour, who was 30 yards out and seeing the keeper way off his line, calmly chipped the ball over the keeper and saw it fly into the Westbury net to score his second goal of the game and Welton's fifth.
This was a very good result from Welton with an all round energetic, committed team performance that sent the Green Army home well contented.
