Welwyn Warriors
Retain the Coldwell Cup
The sixth annual Dave Coldwell Lacrosse Championship was held on a chilly Sunday at Monk’s Walk School, Welwyn Garden City. Twenty-four teams competed in both girls and boys competitions aged from u12 to u18.
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the UK and this was demonstrated by teams travelling from Sheffield, Surrey, London, Croydon and Portsmouth.
The unseasonal cold weather could not stifle the enthusiasm of the day. The Coldwell Cup is rapidly becoming a prominent junior fixture in the south of England.
In the girls’ competition, a strong Harpenden side was narrowly pipped to victory by the American School in Surrey. They lost in extra time to a golden goal.
In the boys’ senior competition, Welwyn Warriors fared even better. Building on their recent second-place at the prestigious ISB tournament in Brussels the boys dominated from start to finish. Welwyn fielded two teams in the competition and both sides came through their pools to play each other in the final.
