This season we will be moving from Tag into Transitional Contact, following the new rules of play. The main change is the introduction of the tackle, which includes for those less confident the ability to tackle a player by any contact below the arm pit which results in a grip and hold (usually around 3 seconds allowed to establish this).
However, our philosophy and values remain unchanged namely:
Teamwork - work together, and not as individuals, towards a shared goal. Always look to encourage team mates and not criticise or moan.
Respect - for coaches, team mates, parents, the club and opponents by taking training and games seriously
Enjoyment - Fun comes from improving as a player, learning new skills leading to more trys & tackles per game by every player and from socialising with your team mates after the games too
Discipline - know the rules and play within them, arrive well in time for training & games, kit is well turned out and correct, improve your fitness
Sportsmanship - at the end of the game know you have done your very best and treat winning or losing in the same way.
Specific areas of improvement for this year the coaches will be working on are:
Decision making - make good ones not bad ones that provide scoring opportunities, with everyone prepared to learn from their mistakes to improve
Support running - giving plenty of opportunities for the ball carrier at any stage to make a pass
Creating space on the pitch through clever use of running angles
By the end of the season, everyone to be a confident tackler with players of all sizes able to bring any opponent to ground
Strong, disciplined defence to force turnovers - 7 tackles made in a row - without conceeding a score
