Dale beat Cas
Up to 3rd
Good all round performance by Wensleydale beating Castleford 44 - 16 at Cawkill Park in front of a decent crowd.
After last weeks loss at 2nd place Otliensians Dale needed to get back on track. With an increasing injury list Dale are happy to still be in contention in the top five of Yorkshire 3.
Boo Wheeler forced his way over for the first try of the day, Jack Reynard converted then kicked 2 penalties.
Flanker Ewan Metcalfe finished off a training ground penalty move only to leave the scene moments later with injuries to head and shoulder, thats 8 on the long term injured list.
Half time 20 - 6.
With the advantage of the cool breeze Dale were expected to turn the screw in the second half. All momentum gained was soon forgotten about as a game of kick tennis ensued. Eventually contact happened and play resumed with Glen Coates finishing nicely in the right hand corner followed by Paul Smith doing the same in the other corner. Bonus point in the bag, time to unleash hell ? No.
Having switched off again Dale spent the next 10 minutes defending giving Castleford opportunities which were taken.
Captain Tom Lawson ploughed through to score under the posts for the fifth and final try. Jack Reynard continued his excellent form converting all 5 tries and slotting 3 penalties for a 100 % return taking his tally for the season over the 200 mark.
Coach Jim Chapman raised a smile after the game praising his team for their efforts.
Next week its bogey team Leeds Mods away, a wins required to keep in touch with the top 2.
