Wensleydale U12,S returned to competitive action after several weeks break with games against Thirsk and Wetherby at Wetherby RUFC.

Wensleydale (U,12) 20 Thirsk (U12) 0

Dale started the New Year in great style with an excellent performance
against a strong Thirsk team.

The game started off very even with both sets of forwards working hard
at the breakdowns in order to secure possession and good work in the
front row by Dan Dent, Ollie Bowett and Zak Woodman eventually broke
the Thirsk forwards down in the scrum to enable quick ball from Joe
Cotton to be fed all the way along the back line for Alistair Civil to
run half the pitch to score the first try.

The first half continued to be very close with great commitment from
both sets of players and the half time score finished 5 - 0 the Dale.

With their confidence growing Dale started the second half well and a
great turnover at the ruck and strong run to the try line by Ollie
Bowett gave Dale their second try of the match. Within minutes Dale
scored their third try when the forwards turned over a Thirsk scrum and
Luke Marshall and Charlie Hardy executed a neat switch pass which
resulted in a try in the corner by Luke Marshall.

With all the players working hard for each and the forwards gaining
some good territory for the backs to get good hand on ball Dale
continued to play some very good rugby showing good positional play and

As the match neared the end Dales continued pressure on the Thirsk
defence line proved too much when once again good controlled passing
through the backs through Ryan Bentley, Landa Latta and Harry Shepherd
created the opportunity for Charlie Hardy to complete the try scoring
with a strong ten metre run and great spin before touching down in the

A fantastic team effort from all the boys which should give great
confidence and belief in their ability going into their next game!

Wensleydale (U,12) 0 Wetherby (U12) 10

With little time to rest after their game against Thirsk once again the
boys put in a performance to be proud of.

Facing a well drilled and very large Wetherby team Dale spent most of
the first half on the defence but stood firm with some superb defending.

Once again the forwards showed great strength and attitude to
frustrated the Wetherby pack for long spells with some great tackles
going in from George, James Gatford,Tommy Littler and Charlie Hardy.

This game resulted in Dale playing more of a kicking game with Luke
Marshall trying to relieve the defence pressue on several ocassions but
Wetherby just kept coming back which did not allow the backs Harry
Bean, Ryan Bentley or Landa Latta much of an opportunity to run at the
Wetherby defence.

Dales resistance was finally broken just before half time when Wetherby
scored an excellent try after turning Dale over at the ruck and
spreading the ball wide to their winger to score.

Not disheartened by this Dale came out fro the second half fighting to
turn the scoreline around but again found the Wetherby pack very strong.

However time and time again awesome defensive work by the whole team
resulted in Wetherby being held up four times on the tryline and in
particular a fantastic chase by Landa Latta of some twenty metres to
tackle and hold up one of Wetherby massive forwards which showed the
great commitment which was running through the team.

Eventually Wetherby's possession resulted in another try to win the
match 10 - 0 (two tries)

Two fantastic games in which the boys showed that they can play great
rugby, great commitment and attitude but most importantly an awesome
togetherness as a team.

Well done to you all a credit to Wensleydale RUFC!!
