New Players Welcome in September

Sunday 6th September
I hope that you enjoyed the first training session at West Bridgford Rugby Club!

Considering it was so hot (don't know how often I'll be able to say that this season!) I think the boys (and Amelia) did exceptionally well!

And the fact that is was all new faces, new place, new coach, silly shape ball ...

The warm-up went down very well, with a holiday and pirate theme. Sam choose Dr Who meets Harry Potter for the next warm up I do, so my Saturday night could be entertaining thinking about a good story!

This coming Sunday training is at the Club Grounds on Stamford Road (opposite the Willow Tree).

It'll be staring at 10.30am so arrive at 10.20am to allow boots on, gettting drinks etc

Clive Hewitt (Wilf's dad) will be taking the session.

We also have a Fun Day arrange for this Sunday, from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

Not too sure what this details but I am sure there will be something there for the U6s.

For anyone who did not manage to get down on Sunday, come and find us and join in the fun!

I hope the boys enjoyed their first taste of rugby, and if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks

Hello! Thank you for your interest in the West Bridgford RFC Minis rugby team. If your son or daughter is interested in playing tag rugby, we have tried to provide a little information below.

The children for the Under 6s age group should be from Year 1 at school.

We run training sessions on a Sunday morning. The first session of the new season will be on Sunday 9th September 2012 at Alford Road Playing Fields. Training starts at 10.30 and finishes around 12.00. After that we will be training at our home ground on Stamford Road (opposite the Willow Tree Pub)

Until they get to school Year 4, the children play a non-contact version of rugby called “Tag Rugby”. This is a 4-a-side game where the children wear a velcro belt with two removable ribbons attached to each side. The attacking side aims to score a try by running towards the try line and putting the ball down on the ground. The defending team aims to stop the attackers and tackle them by removing a tag from the attacker’s belt and shouting “TAG!”. The attacker then has to pass the ball to a team mate. The game is fast and furious and great fun.

Training consists of some warm ups, some ball handling / passing / catching games / agility sessions and usually a big game of Bulldog to round off with. No previous experience or skills are necessary and we welcome everyone who wants to join in. Basically, we have a big run around, have fun as well as to try to tire the children out!

Come up and say “Hello” (we’ll have on jackets saying “COACH”) and we can get your child signed in. Can you please ensure that your child is here by 10.20? This means that we can all warm up together. Children should come in a tracksuit and trainers (or studded boots if they have them) and bring with them a drinks bottle and a wet weather jacket if possible.

Hot food and drinks are available from the clubhouse (and the bar opens at 12.00 if you need something stronger after spectating for two hours!).

We hope to see you in September.
