Bridgford Hit Miners For Six

Match Reporter: John Burns

The league leaders made the short journey to Mapperley Top looking to extend the gap at the top of the East Midland Counties league to six points in what could be described as potential banana skin against 21st placed Gedling Miners Welfare.

Bridgford struggled for the first 15 minutes failing to adapt to the weather conditions and heavy handed Gedling tactics - however having seen keeper Andy Trowbridge make a howling error which the visitors should have capitalised on we then witnessed him produce a Gedling man of the match performance which ultimately kept the end score down to single figures.

The rout started in the 21st minute when Bridgford opened the scoring in spectacular style - man of the match Jurgen Charlesworth curled in a superb 30 yard strike following a pass from Aaron Large. 0-1 (Bridgford)

Jamie Spiers then had a effort well saved by Trowbridgde, at the other end Jayieola was caught napping at a set piece but Bridgford keeper Sam Clark saved Eugene Francis effort easily.

After 32 minutes the away side doubled their lead - another splendid effort from Charlesworth who casually chipped in from 25 yards. 0-2 (Bridgford)

The Reds then had further opportunities in the first half but found the Gedling keeper Trowbridge in outstanding form, a save from a Pat Newsome header was quite brilliant.

HT 0-2 (Bridgford)

The second half saw Bridgford continue to dominate with the plains road traffic lights seemed continually to be on green as West Bridgford poured forward - on 49 minutes Jurgen Charlesworth completed his hat-trick when he again produced a moment of individual quality with a sublime effort from 30 yards. 0-3 (Bridgford)

The barrage continued and on the 65th minute Tim Hopkinson was upended in the box, up stepped leading scorer Carl Westcarr who converted the spot kick for his 19th goal of the season and his first since December. 0-4 (Bridgford)

Ex Gedling midfielder Aaron Large then scored a well deserved 5th goal for the visitors after a mazy run into the box. 0-5 (Bridgford)

Bridgford could now smell blood and were seeking more goals - Dave Belshaw, Dave Erentz and Jonathan Ventrella all had efforts saved by Trowbridge.

After further sustained pressure Charlesworth netted his 4th of the game in the 85th minute with far post tap in. 0-6 (Bridgford)

The overall performance of the league leaders was excellent and the Reds now enter a crucial stage of the season in decent form.

Man Of The Match: Jurgen Charlesworth

Joint Manager Chris Marks was pleased at the final whistle, 'The first twenty minutes were fairly even, the two moments of brilliance from Jurgen opened the game up though and second half I thought we totally dominated the game and should have scored many more'
