Ashby Ivanhoe 0 v West Bridgford 1
Aaron Large Goal Makes it Back to Back Wins For Bridgford
The game started slowly with few chances being created for either side. Akim Akimbinu had an early attempt blocked and Aaron Large hit a long range shot wide. In the 12th minute Danny Rigley reached high to save an Ivanhoe shot but was judged to have touched the ball outside the box. Ashby fans were aggrieved that only a yellow card was awarded with the free kick. Bridgford slowly started to get on top. Will Daly was forgetting he had been chosen at right back this week and was spotted in an offside position on the left wing at one stage. Dave Erentz was making some good forward runs from central defence one of which took him to the edge of the Ashby penalty area before his cross was blocked for a corner. By half time Bridgford had had the best of the late chances, Ross Haig got on the end of a Will Heath cross but his shot was turned round for a corner.
And so it was 0-0 at half time. The second half continued in the same vein as the first. The away side having the slightly better of the overall play. Ashby were defending well and frustrating the Bridgford outfit with blocks and tackles. In the 60th minute Ashby had a chance from a free kick after NIck Labatte had tripped an Ivanhoe player. The shot was hit hard but rebounded off the wall and the follow up was fired over. It was then Bridgford's turn to attack. Aaron Large was brought down on the edge of the box. Jaylee Hodgson took the free kick quickly and hit the inside of the post. The referee had not been ready and the retake was hit straight into the wall. Almost immediately Notts County 'kit man' Sam Perrin had to make a last ditch tackle to deny 2 Ashby attackers a certain goal.
The deadlock was broken in the 75th minute when Aaron Large started a move in midfield. Akimbinu controlled the pass on the right and played it to Ross Haig. His cross was jubilantly struck home by Large who had raced to the far side of goal.
All in all it was a solid Bridgford performance to take all 3 points.
