Westcombe Park Academy

"Ambition is Everything"

Westcombe Park Academy provides a genuine platform for all young players aged 16 to 18 with a playing and expert coaching environment that enables them to evolve into the senior game whilst continuing to play in a highly competitive and challenging environment.

The Academy is designed as a high calibre training and playing environment that embraces all young players in this age group regardless of capability and enables each player to achieve and exceed their true playing potential.

Following on the success of the Academy in winning the RFU’s National Plate Final in 2012 held at Franklins Gardens, and retaining that crown again at the revised National Under 18's Colts Competition in 2013, Westcombe Park has committed itself to evolve a structured foundation for young emerging talent in the form of its Rugby Academy.

We encourage every young player to evolve and continue to play the game of rugby and the Academy provides the perfect opportunity to do this.

Competitively the Academy seeks to compete in the National Colts Competition each season whilst also entering appropriate competitive League / Cup competitions each season to enable all players to compete at the highest level they can.

To do this, Combe has gathered together some of the best coaching capability around and offers all players the chance to train alongside the 1st and 2nd team players as well as being given the opportunity to play with them in competitive senior competitions and leagues.

The prestigious National Colts Competition is designed to capture and include the very best players from U16s - U18s from the untapped vein of talent from within the club already as well as local schools and clubs.

Westcombe Park RFC is committed to further developing its Academy and building on previous success in National Colts competition. The 'Combe Academy' utilises the best players from the under 17's to under 19's age groups. Our aim is to develop a side capable of going on to compete on a level footing with the best Academy sides in the Country and to develop and progress each and every season. We already have a high number of extremely talented players committed for next season and it is our desire to significantly strenghthen the squad, these players will be coached and developed not only for the immediate season but allowing them to enter the senior game at a high level, some of which we would hope to go on to play 1st XV rugby in the National League. During Season 2009/10 'Combe are committed to further improving the coaching and training structure and ultimately build on previous success. We have a dedicated Head Coach who has appointed an experienced coaching team to assist. During the 2010/11 Combe are introducing an Elite Player Scheme which will see Academy Players fast tracked into the top level Senior sides also mentoered by the 1st Team Coaches. More on this as it develops. We will once again enter the National knockout competition as well as arrange friendly fixtures with some of the best Academy sides in the region. We are actively seeking players who will qualify for under 19's Rugby next season who wish to still play at this level and benefit from additional coaching and training and the rewards that may bring. We will be holding weekly training sessions throughout the summer and hold trials at the end of August/beginning of September 2009.
