Westfield went into the start of a tough double header trip to Middlesex to face another side with a 100% record Feltham
With Tom Hegarty and Scott O’Connor side-lined with injuries and Charlie Newman and Luke Beale taken a very unwelcome two week holiday at the start of the season Westfield handed debuts to Jamie Doble and Danny Perks in defence whilst Shane Chesseman made the starting line-up for the first time.

The pitch at Bedfont is currently the best it’s ever been but with the grass still long as is custom this time of year it slowed the game down and both sides made a laboured start. It was Westfield who created the first opportunity after 10 minutes when Damian Panter turned in the box but shot straight at. Moments later the hosts found inform striker Luke Oliver clear on goal but Brawley came out well to deny the lively front man. Rob Anderson was next to go close as he connected with Andy Kings curling free kick but guided his effort on the volley wide from 10 yards.
Westfield opened the scoring on 21minutes. After Rob Anderson has been brutally hacked down in the corner the resulting free kick was cleared back out to Jamie Doble who curled into the top right corner for the opening goal. It was the perfect start for the right back signed from Chobham in the summer. Westfield should have doubled their lead on 34 minutes when Rob Anderson planted a free header over from Doble’s corner. The big front man still suffering the effects of the earlier tackle was soon replaced by another debutant Rob Jones. Feltham were denied an equaliser 5 minutes from the break when Brawley made a superb reaction save palm a header onto the bar. Despite a poor first half Westfield almost doubled their lead in first half injury time when the lively Jones cut inside his man but saw his shot blocked by the keeper.

The second half saw a marked improvement from Westfield who raised the temp and knocked the ball about a lot better. Tristan Thomas in the Feltham goal who was named their man of the match made two early saves to keep his side in the match. The game should have been dead and buried however an hour in as first Shane Cheeseman blasted high over an open goal and then moments later Damian Panter falling over the ball on the line with the goal at his mercy. With Westfield’s midfield of Allum and Roissetter dominant the backline was rarely troubled but when called upon Perks and Tyler were dominant. Robbie Wilson was the next to be foiled by Thomas but his 25 yard drive was parried wide. Westfield finally wrapped up the game when Rob Jones latched onto Wilsons through the ball and the ex-Ripley man slotted coolly into the corner to cap a superb debut. There was still time for another sub Dan Sales to hit the bar with a miscued cross.

Overall a comfortable performance but better sides will take advantage of a lacklustre first half performance
