U11s secure 2 victories but Firsts and 16s suffer defeats.

1ST XI

Westgate 1sts lost by 3 wickets away to Warton. The start of the game was delayed by over 90 minutes as the sides waited for the rain to stop. When it did, the game was reduced to 32 overs per side and Warton won the toss. They invited Westgate to bat and it proved to be an excellent decision on a pitch offering a lot to the bowlers. Westgate were struggling at 32-5 off 14 overs before a 28-run partnership from Khan Puffett and Danny Wilkinson helped steady the ship. Wilkinson fell for 14 and Puffett added an extra 18 with Garry Tattersall (7). After Tattersall fell, Puffett and Peter Wilson (26n.o) put on an important 56 run stand to help Westgate to a competitive 134-7. Puffett finishing unbeaten on 51. Warton's Needham finished with impressive figures of 5-58.

In reply, Warton were assisted by 54 run partnership between Ricky Nelson and Tom Barnfield. Nelson fell for 18 and was shortly followed by Mayor and Partridge which put Westgate firmly back in the game. Barnfield eventually fell for 56 and was followed by Weatherall leaving Warton 124-7. This left Warton needing 11 from the last 3.4 overs and they secured victory in the final over as Graeme Crowther found the boundary to give Warton 12 points. Dylan Conroy was the pick of the bowlers with (2-24).

2ND XI

Westgate second team fell victim to the weather for the second time this season and had to settle for 6 points when their game vs Bolton-Le-Sands was called off before play had begun.

U16

Westgate U16s lost by 9 wickets to a much older Bare U16s on Wednesday. Batting first Joel Frith made a competent 11, but from 26  - 1 off 5 overs a collapse saw the total falter to 46 - 7. Jim Craig (10), Arjun Manjare (13 n.o.) & Joe Bradshaw (7 n.o.) ensured a decent final total of 74 for 8. The older Bare team made light work of winning the game, the winning runs coming at the end of the twelth over with Jim Craig taking the only wicket to fall.

U11 – Hardball

Due to footballing commitments, a much changed Westgate side travelled to Shireshead on Friday evening. Westgate took 9 players and Shires had 8, with all players involved enjoying the evening. Batting first, Jack Liptrot and George Abel had a partnership worth 21 runs. Charlie Higson, Joe Jones and Jack Johnson added 14 before the best partnership of the game came from the imperious Nathan Allen and skipper for the day Matthew Bradshaw. The pair put on 38 to guide Westgate to 273.
Shireshead got off to a fantastic start thanks to Ollie Toulmin and Stan Picton putting on 32. There was then some fine bowling and fielding from Harry Miller, Charlie Higson, Matthew Bradshaw & George Abel which left Shireshead pair Alistair Fowler and Daniel Pye needing 15 from the last over. Harry Winder kept his nerve and Shires closed on 268 rewarding Westgate with a 5 run win and raised the question of whether the footballers will get their places back.

U11 – Softball

Westgate's softball team won their 3rd game in a row on Sunday. Shireshead were the visitors and they finished their innings on 251. A partnership of 36 between Alistair Fowler and Stan Collinson giving them a healthy total. For Westgate, Jack Liptrot (3), Matthew Bradshaw (2), Lawson Carr (1), Marcus Palamountain (1) and George Abel (1) shared the wickets.

In reply, Bradshaw and Carr smashed 42, Abel and Liptrot added 36, Palamountain and Rayram Hussain scored 32 and Joe craig contributed 18 with Jake Moore. This left Westgate on 341 and therefore secured a 90 run win.

Thanks to Chilly for the junior reports.
