Both senior sides lose as two junior sides win

Seniors

Westgate's first team had a heavy 55-run defeat at home to Arnside on Saturday. Arnside batted first and were bowled all out for 89. Zak Buchanan (7-43) was the pick of the Westgate bowlers with his best figures of the season, and now has 44 wickets to his name in 2017. Andy Hill's side couldn't cut it with the bat however and were embarrassingly bowled out for just 34 runs. Jack Huntington (13) and Garry Tattersall (11) were the only batsmen to reach double figures as the hosts struggled against the likes of A.Cowperthwaite (4-19). The scorecard is available here.

The second team had a dismal result on the other side of the rugby pitch, losing by eight wickets to local rivals Bare. Westgate batted first and were all out for just 64 and Dhakshina De Silva top scored with 21 runs. The hosts reached the target within 20.3 overs losing just two wickets. Dave Hannigan (1-14) and Elliot Chapman (1-15) were the only bowlers to get wickets for Westgate in a game to forget. The match report and scorecard can be found here.

Juniors

Westgate's U19 side didn't play either of their two scheduled games this week due to the weather and also the fact that the police couldn't put together a team.

Westgate U13s recorded another win over Torrisholme, beating their "green" side by 5 runs in a thrilling game at Cross Hill Park. Westgate scored 68-7 in their 20 overs with Josh Rigby (14) top scoring. The visitors were 16-6 off their first 8 overs thanks to great bowling from Dan Legg (3-9) and Joel Frith (2-7) but they managed to get close to the score. They were bowled out for 63 with Hayden Mills taking the final wicket to clinch the victory.

Westgate U11s recorded their fourth successive victory on Sunday at home to Bolton Le Sands. Westgate's in-form youngsters again scored over 300 totalling 320 runs with all partnerships scoring 20 or more:-Sam Hayward & Charlie Higson (20), George Abel with Marcus Palamountain & Ellis Byron (20), Yusuf Dalal & Jack Edwards (21), Nathan Allen & Harry Miller (23) and finally Joseph & Matthew Bradshaw (36). In reply some excellent fielding and catching backed up the bowlers who restricted the visitors to 228. The wicket takers were:- George (3), Charlie (2), Marcus (2), Ellis (1), Harry (1), Sam (1) and Joseph (1).

Next week[b]

Next week Westgate’s first team have two games. On Saturday, they face Shireshead away from home in the league before facing Warton away from home in the Semi Final of the Division 1 T20 Cup on Sunday (11am start). The second team face Shireshead A at home on the Saturday. Both senior sides will be looking to get back to winning ways.
All three junior sides are in action next week. On Thursday, the U19s travel to Netherfield whilst the U13s are away to Heysham on Wednesday and on Sunday the U11s are away to Torrisholme Blue.
