Unbeaten Hill century helps Westgate to 111-run win over Ambleside
An unbeaten 102 from captain Andy Hill helped Westgate to their biggest win of the season so far on Saturday.
By Chris Hill
Hill's hundred means that he's only the fourth player to appear on the Westgate Honours Board at least three times. The honours board can be found here.
Batting first the visitors were well contained early on by the Wileman brothers who both proved difficult to score off. Barney went for 1-22 from 11 overs and Oli only went for six off his first seven overs.
After 22 overs the Westgate score was 56 - 1 with Craig Buchanan (49) helping to lay down a platform for the incoming batsmen. The run rate was picked up by Andreas Arestidou (30 off 28 balls) and Sam Frith (31 n. o. off 18 balls) who both helped Hill to his hundred.
Andy scored 102 off 134 balls with three 6s and ten 4s, his second 50 coming off 45 balls as he accelerated his innings.
After 13 overs in their reply Ambleside stood at a healthy 42-1. However when the classy Oli Wileman was well caught by Frith off the skilful Peter Wilson for 35 their long tail was exposed. Peter Wilson with 2, Andy Nisbet 1, Garry Tattersall 1, Jack Huntington 1 and the accurate Dylan Conroy (5-37) took all the wickets and were well backed up by some excellent fielding with Robbie Mackintosh Green leading the way.
The win means Westgate remain at the top of Division 1.
