Vaughan proves his worth as Westgate lose comfortably to Ambleside
Vice-captain Vaughan scored 64% of the runs as Westgate were all out for 50
Westgate A suffered their third defeat of the season as they lost by six wickets to Ambleside in the Lake District.
At a stunning ground in stunning weather, Westgate won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Chris Carter (4) was out early in the fourth over, and the wickets continued to fall quickly albeit some small partnerships. Elliot Chapman (3) and captain Dave Hannigan (0) followed soon after, before Sam Conroy (5) and Jacob Vaughan (32) steadied the ship and put on a partnership of 21 runs in the space of ten overs. After Conroy was out bowled by spinner O.Wileman (3-18), Hughes (0) was out soon after. Vaughan and James Main (0) then put on eleven runs in the next four overs, but then wickets tumbled quickly after opener Vaughan was dismissed bowled by B.McGregor (4-8). Sharjito Islam (1) followed soon after before Main, Alex Parrott and Owen Holland were all dismissed without scoring. B.McGregor bowled brilliantly for Ambleside, taking four wickets for eight runs from just four overs, including two caught and bowled, and he was certainly the pick of the bowlers.
With the time only being 15:30, tea wasn't taken. Ambleside started their innings fairly well with the openers putting on sixteen runs for the first wicket. Sam Conroy (1-15) took the first wicket bowling out Tyson (7) for seven. The next wicket came three overs later with Jacob Vaughan (1-19) dismissing new batsman Southworth (0) LBW for no runs. Later in the innings, youngsters Alex Parrott (1-9) and Sharjito Islam (1-6) came onto bowl and both got their maiden senior wicket. Parrott dismissed opener O.Wileman (22), who was caught by wicket keeper Chris Carter and then Islam dismissed Griffiths LBW. Westgate managed to put up a fairly decent fight, but this didn't stop Hunt (11*) and Johnson (1*) taking the hosts to the target - taking the fifteen points to continue their good start to the season.
Up next for Westgate A is Holme at home on Saturday 10th June.
