Cubs Visit Leigh Sports Village
This morning we took a break from training and joined the Junior Centurions on a tour of the Leigh Sports Village.
The original plan was to catch the end of a Leigh Centurions training session. Then meet the players for autographs but with coach Paul Rowley bringing his players in at 8am it was at the teams post training breakfast at the Park Inn hotel when our boys got to meet the Centurions.
As we left the players in peace to finish their breakfasts we were met by Leigh's general manager, former Kiwi international, Richie Blackmore. Richie gave us a guided tour of the facilities at Leigh Sports Village, starting with the players gym and pool at Leigh sports centre next door to the stadium.
After a quick look at Leigh Harriers athletics track we entered the Sports Village Stadium. The boys had their pictures taken in the tunnel and the changing rooms before having a walk inside the ground. Before the end of the tour we fired a few testing questions at Richie Blackmore in a Q&A session that he probably will never forget!
On leaving the stadium we met current Leigh and Castleford player Ryan Brierley, himself a former Westhoughton Lion. Ryan is a top lad who has all the time in the world for young Rugby players like our boys and speaks fondly of his days playing at The Den.
Thanks to everyone at Leigh Centurions for having us today and to Ryan for staying behind to chat to the boys and pose for pics.
