With coach's from the lions and bolton develoment team going into local schools it's beginning showing great results. Below is a recent update of how coaching in schools is helping one local primary school....
In Recent weeks St James Primary School Daisy Hill have been entered into a number of Tag Rugby League competitions.
On Thursday the 24th May year 3 were Captained by Westhoughton Lion Noah Sumner to win all of their matches...winning the competition hands down.
Year three have had the benefit of coaching throughout the year from Howard Newton and myself and later by John Duffy and Howard Newton again.
Coupled with the fact that the school team had players who originate from the Lions, the additional coaching in school facilitated other team members to have a far greater understanding of the game and it showed on the pitch and indeed by results.
Well done year three!!
Year 4 Captained by Westhoughton Lion Indra Lilley won two out of their three matches and in all fairness had this competition sprung on them at the last minute with very little preparation or in school coaching.
This school team held three Westhoughton Lions who held it together really well under the circumstances, their opposing teams were made up of their normal weekend team mates!!
Well done year 4!!
Bolton 2012 Year 5/6 Tag Rugby League Competition
Having been into St James week on week-this competition for Howard, myself and the children of years 5 ,6 was the one that counted....the one it had been all about if you like.
Previously we have been here and dependant on which account you listened to we'd been done an injustice-but not this time, this time those children meant business! From the moment they were picked up and what seemed like a long drive to the arena they were buzzing with tactics and team talk-as luck would have it ....it wasn't just talk
Captain Krishna Lilley (tts)-Westhoughton Lions, ably assisted by team mate Oliver Owen led eight team mates against four other schools
St James 4 v 0 St Osmunds
St James 7 v 0 St Peters Farnworth
St James 4 v 0 The Oaks
St James 3 v 0 Washacre
St James 1 v 0 St Catherines Academy (semi final)
St James 2 v 0 All Saints (final)
Big thanks to all the coaches who continue to put in the hard work.
