Hull Dockers - League Game (Away)

Wests continue unbeaten run with a fine display against a physical Dockers side.

Venue: Eastmount School.


Date: 23rd October 2011. Kick off: 1015am

Wests and Dockers defence in the first half was on top and forced a few errors from both sides in the opening 10 minutes. Wests line speed combined with some excellent tackling kept Dockers in their own half in the first half.

Wests battered the Dockers line but the defence from Dockers kept Wests out until the pressure told towards the end of the first half which saw Stevie Newby knock over several Dockers players in the process of scoring the first and only try of the first half with a run from 25/30 metres. Kia Thorpe Converted 0 - 6.

Josh Atkinson made some impressive scoots from acting half back helping out the forwards in the first half.


The first 5 minutes of the second half again defences were on top for both sides. Wests continued to put pressure on Dockers with some great dummy runs which gave Jordan Richmond and Harry Whittles options. Wests second try came from an error after Jordan Richmond has put in a high kick on the 5th tackle, Dockers knocked on with Jack Bartlett retrieving the ball. From the resulting set Kia Thorpe forced his way over the try line. 0 - 10. Conversion missed.

Dockers then had a spell in the Wests half but excellent defence kept Dockers out.

Once Wests had ball to hand, they made progress to the Dockers line with some great runs from the forwards. Jordan placed the ball over the try line with a weaving run to pass 3 Dockers would be defenders. Harry Whittles converted. 0 - 16.

Dockers where reduced to 12 players after foul play with about 6 minutes left. Dockers did get a consolation try in injury time to end the score 4 - 16.

MOM: This week’s man of the match is shared between Jacob Lowe and Kai Thorpe. Lowe had his best game and played very controlled, he put on some big hits and ran very hard. Kai Thorpe was outstanding going forward and topped the hit ups with 14 very strong runs and also hit hard in defence.
