5 years ago By Mike Sugden

Wests edge Wyke in the second half to maintain unbeaten run.

Sunday 9th October - 11am Kick off
Location: West Hull
Conditions: Overcast, damp.

The first half was scoreless with both Wests and Wykes defenses on top.
When the play was moved out wide to the wings, Wests nearly scored on a couple of occasions. The closest chance was when Thomas Sugden was forced out in to touch, with the wet conditions helping Wkyes defence to slide him out. This attack came after forcing a drop out which Jordan Richmond put in a kick from the 40 metre line which Wkye’s full back had to retrieve from his own try line with Thomas chasing down the wing to tackle the player over his own in goal area.

The second half found Wests spreading the ball to the wings which eventual broke the Wykes defensive line. Some great hand movement from right to left saw Joe Callaghan score the first points of the game. (4 – 0).

Wests then scored again with a similar move moving the ball from right to left with Jacob Lowe scoring in the corner. (8 – 0).

Wyke then pressed on and came close on a couple of occasions near the Wests line but again a great defensive effort kept them out.

Wests had the last try of the game with a clever kick from Jordan in the 20 metre zone which was lifted across to the right hand side above the Wyke defence for Buddy Wharton to pluck out of the air and score in the corner (12 – 0).

MOM : Josh Atkinson - He came joint top of the tackle count alongside George and Jordan with 13 each and carried the ball strongly 9 times and made loads of yards everytime he touched the ball.

Tries: Joe Callaghan, Jacob Lowe, Buddy Wharton
