match report

West Leeds 40 – 14 Dalton

Several players this week not available due to injury meant the coaching team had to re-juggle the team again.

A good all round performance by both sets of players on the pitch, a good game of rugby league to watch for the spectators, west Leeds tight defence saw West Leeds take home the victory.

In the opening minutes of the game with West Leeds thinking more about their spray tans and the ladies night they were attending later in the day saw Dalton throw the ball out wide and score a very good try. Both teams then settled down with West Leeds defence tightening up and all thoughts of the Ladies Night on the back burner decided to play rugby, with the defence tightened up Dalton found little opportunity to break through.

Lapses in concentration saw Dalton run in two more well deserved tries. The two young wingers for Dalton were a credit to the team and never gave up; number five throughout the game never stopped encouraging his team mates and was always one of the first Dalton players to run up in defence.

Good ball play by West Leeds saw several tries scored and the kicking by Liam Copland completed a good day’s work on the pitch.

With no mighty warrior on the pitch (Steve Mail) this week I nominate Andrew Boot as the warrior! He came so close at times to the try line but just failed in those last desperate seconds to push himself through the defence to score a try. Andrew either needs to bulk up a little more for more pushing power or get to the gym, depends which way you look at it!

West Leeds took the spoils on the day all round not only winning on the pitch but winning the drinking race for the man of the match and the boat race.

Dalton are an absolutely fantastic set of lads and are a credit to the Pennine League and West Leeds ARLFC wish them all the best for the rest of the season.
