West London Eagles Women keep flying
Barking Sporthouse hosted a well fought match at the weekend where West London Eagles took-off at the end of the first half and dominated London Angels for most of the second half except the last 10 minutes, forcing coach Paul Dempsey to change West Londo
London Angels to scored the first goal of the match to which West London Eagles responded with a well-organized movement and a great score from the line player Maria. The Eagles made a few mistakes in attack and Angels do not lose the chance to go for a couple of fast breaks, one of which was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Anette. Angels set up a tough but not always fair defence but Eagles did not gain any advantage from the first 2 penalties. Eagles’ wings, scored a few exceptional goals forcing Angels to keep a close eye on them. Eagles responded with Sunniva, Noelly and Anne scoring from 9 meters. Angels do not give up and penetrate the Eagles’ defence scoring twice in row. At the end of the first half Eagles led 12-10.
In the second half, Angels changed their defending strategy taking out the Eagles’ left back. Both teams were on fire and the tension rose when Eagles right winger Kasia got injured while in defence, a few minutes later the referee gave 2 minutes to two Eagles players and a penalty for the Angels which was saved by Oli. Eagles are in shape and with a few fast breaks are leading the game 20-16 with only 10 minutes to go. Angels called a time out and go back to the field giving lots of trouble to Eagles’ defence and shortening the score gap. Eagles coach Paul Dempsey changed the defense once more taking out Angels’ left back, two minutes to the end and Marghe serves an assist to Erika who signed the last score of the match, Eagles won Angels 23-22.
Eagles are third on the table with 22 points but have two games in hand over the second placed Hawks (24 points) and one game in hand over the leading team GD (27 points).
