The New Year started with a bonus point victory for West Mon who at the same time achieved a certain amount of revenge for an early season defeat.
The foundation for the win was laid by the strong forward play of the home pack and after ten minutes this led to a penalty try which was converted by Deri King.
The heavy conditions made handling difficult but West Mon still managed a further three first half tries through Sean Mason, Mark Groves and Anthony Armstrong. The visitors replied with a well taken penalty goal.
The second half was a far more even affair with great credit going to New Tredegar who attempted to move the ball on every possible occasion.
Nevertheless the home side added two further unanswered tries from wing Matthew King, the second being an excellent sixty yard effort following a chip ahead from the ubiquitous Lewis Edwards.
Anthony Armstrong was the pick of the home forwards whilst Stuart Smith was on top form following his return from a relaxing 14 day Mediterranean cruise.
A special word for hooker Geoff Lewis now in his sixth decade, whilst at the other end of the age scale, young Josh Crewe made a second half debut.
