The margin of victory suggests a comfortable win for the homeside but for long periods this was anything but the case as the visitors contributed fully to an entertaining game.
Indeed West Mon could count themselves fortunate to reach the end of the first forty minutes on level terms as a mixture of spurned opportunities by the Ironsides and resolute defence from the homeside kept the tryline intact.
The second half was completely different as the homeside increased the pace of the game and this combined with several astute substitutions by coach Mark Jones saw West Mon score four unanswered tries from Shane Roberts, Matthew King and Craig Buffin.
The fourth try was probably the most satisfying of all, as the build up to the score was started on the home try line by pacey left wing Phil Simmonds. Play went through several phases until flanker Daniel Duke crashed over for the bonus point score.
Outside half Deri King enjoyed an exemplary day with the boot converting all four tries and adding a penalty goal for good measure.
Adam Stone had another good game in the No 8 position whilst prop Matt James was irresistable with ball in hand.
One sad note was the injury to the popular Alex Watkins who had the misfortune to dislocate a shoulder after being on the field for less than two minutes. Best wishes and a speedy recovery Alex.
