Saturday is going to be a busy day at South Shields Westoe RFC as due to league fixtures there are 3 teams at home.

The Lookers sponsored 1st XV having suffered a recent 52-0 loss at away to Alnwick are looking to bounce back this week with a fresh and positive outlook. The team last week was weakened due to injuries and players not being available. As mentioned at the start of the season “this is a young and inexperienced side” that has gained in experience this year in what can only be described as a very competitive league. Both the management and coaching team are still hoping to maintain the team’s status in North 1 East next year although now they need all other league results to go their way.
South Shields Westoe has always experienced a competitive relationship with Morpeth over the years with the spoils being split fairly evenly. Morpeth currently lie in mid table and go into this encounter as clear favourites on form; yet as everyone now knows in this league each team can beat anyone on the day which is proving to be very exciting and ultimately un-predictable. The match is being sponsored by Westoe Club stalwart Chris Marlow and kick off is 3.00pm.
The West Nautical sponsored 2nd team face Ryton in their Candy League fixture at Harton Technology College’s 3G pitch, kick off 3.00pm. The team like the 1st XV has had mixed results this season but manager Mark Mackay commented ‘ If all players who can play 2nd team are available on Saturday we have a good chance of a win against a strong Ryton team, so I ask all the Westoe lads to help both our 1st & 2nd teams secure wins this weekend!’
The Lookers sponsored Colts are entertaining West Hartlepool kick off & venue to be confirmed. West Hartlepool don’t play well away from home, therefore Colts manager Ray Bays is hopeful of another win this weekend. He said ‘The Colts had an impressive win away to Wigton last Saturday and we hope this has given the lads a much needed boost’.
On the Junior Team front, the Westoe Under 13’s are playing in the Durham County Plate Final on Sunday at Consett RFC – kick off 11.00am. Following that they will be back at Westoe for the Annual Junior Presentation Afternoon.
