The firsts travel to Peterlee, the new home of Horden RFC to play the newly named Horden & Peterlee RFC.
After last Saturdays match against Gateshead the Westoe faithful are looking for the team to put in a solid 80 minute performance. The match last week was agonising for both players and supporters with the Lookers sponsored Westoe men dominating for the entire first half and going into the second half with a 20 point plus lead. However for whatever reasons the team once again seemed to implode on its self and allow Gateshead to claw back the lead and eventually win by 37-41. The Management this week said’ We are only 3 matches into this new season and yes we like our supporters would of loved to have won at least one, if not all of the matches. There were small errors which hindered our performances in these games and hopefully during this week’s training we have ironed them out! Last week we should of won that match but all we can do is put that behind us and move forward.’
The coaching team at Westoe has this week secured the services of ex-1st team scrum half Chris Judson who is taking on the role of assistant coach/player. Chris will be working alongside Graeme Smith and will be in charge of the backs coaching as well as putting his boots back on.
Horden & Peterlee currently lie 4th in Durham Northumberland 1 with 13 points having won all three of their opening fixtures. Last week they narrowly beat Hartlepool Rover at home by 3 points. These narrow points’ wins seem to be common place in this league as most matches since the season began have been won or lost by an average of 5 points!
The West Nautical sponsored 2nd team are at home on Saturday against Horden & Peterlee 2nds. The team is buoyant and the moment with 3 wins out of 3 making them leaders of the CANDY League 2 with 27 points. Last week they won away on the road to Corbridge Centurians 17-33.
