Westoe welcome back Graeme Smith as their new coach for 2016. Pre-Season - Tuesday 28th June at Mortimer School

Graeme 'Miff' Smith, started his career at Westoe in 1994 before moving on to Aspatria in 1997.

Miff also excelled in Rugby League, attaining 9 International Caps with Scotland and winning the BUSA National Cup with Liverpool Lions.

He returned to Westoe in 2002 and remained until 2012; part of the Twickenham Team who reached the National Intermediate Cup; winning three County Cups and also crowned champions of both North Two and North One leagues.

Miff left to take his first coaching steps at local side Blythe in 2013, where he helped guide the side to become Northumberland County Plate winners in 2014.

Capped for his county three times, Miff is a robust, yet skillful, player who will lead the current team both on and off the field. At his appointment Miff had the following to say,

I am extremely pleased to be appointed as Westoe's head coach for the coming season. Having played for the club for a decade as a senior player, it feels like I'm coming home. I know the clubs history and traditions well, and I'm already looking forward to taking charge of pre-season training, getting reacquainted with the old players and getting to know the new ones.

In the 3 years I was coaching at Blyth RFC, I enjoyed my time immensely. It was a hard decision to leave, but I feel I have made the right choice. I am relishing the opportunity to coach, and play for, this great club once again.

The past couple of seasons have been tough for the club, but I aim to halt the drop in league position and challenge for promotion back to North 1 east. To do that will take hard work and commitment from the coaching team, the players and the people behind the scenes. I'm calling on all players, be they existing, old or new to the club, to get down to the preseason sessions and start to build for what will undoubtedly be a fantastic season.

Look forward to seeing you all at the first session,

Miff.

We wish Miff well and hope to see as many players at Pre-season as possible. All new (and old) players will be warmly welcomed to the Westoe family, so if you've always wanted to give the game a try, or fancy dusting off the old boots again, now is the perfect time to join the Westoe Family.
