The Benfield Motors sponsored South Shields Westoe RFC face new foe in their next league game at home at Woods Terrace on Saturday.

The team having played eight league games with only one win to date are looking to bounce back this week with a fresh and positive outlook. On Saturday the Shieldsmen will include a good mix of experience and youth which will hopefully provide Westoe’s next league win.
The Westoe RFC Family is hoping that the whole squad will pull together in the same direction to try and maintain their playing status with North 1 East. Both the management and revised coaching team are looking to implement some fundamental changes which should benefit all of the players and match outcomes.
Saturday’s home game is sponsored by Projeckt Architects an old acquaintance of Westoe’s Chairman, he is one of many new sponsors this season which bodes well for the future of the club. Ian said “ The sponsorship team headed up by Westoe Secretary, Suzanne Etchells along with Chalky White ( Treasurer), Stu Ashman ( Vice Chairman),John Tighe (Club President) & Ian Campbell have all worked hard to bring in new required sponsorship to what has kicked started the South Shields Westoe RFC. The whole committee are behind the lads on Saturday so with this in mind come down and show your support for the team and enjoy what is now a friendly happy club where everyone can socialise over a few beers with a bit of local craic.
South Shields Westoe RFC have not played Guisborough RFC for many years in a league game, so both teams will feeling their way into what is unknown territory. Guisborough lie 9th in the league with 18 points from 3 wins. However they have get to play the top teams as Westoe have already done. This game should prove to be very interesting for home fans as it will demonstrate how competitive Westoe can be.
Chalky White (Treasurer) said “ All we want is for the team to be competitive and to stay in this league whereby the younger lads will be better, bigger, stronger & faster next season” “If the lads put in a decent shift on Saturday the right result will be achieved so let’s all refrain from focussing on the win and just play the game”.
