Widnes 1st XV 28pts V West Park 1st XV 7pts
Match Report by George Baldry
Individually several of Park’s players turned in good performances
Another disappointing display by the visitors leaves them with much to do to ensure league safety.
Though well in the game at half time, trailing 8 pts to 7 pts, Park turned in a below par and dispirited
performance in the second half, Widnes adding a further 4 tries and leaving the visitors with only an earlier
penalty try to count in their favour.
Injuries before and during the game did little to help Park’s cause, being obviously unsettling, but all of
Widnes’s tries resulted from simple passing movements which could and should have been easily defended.
At one point in the second half the home side was reduced to 13 players as a result of two yellow cards
issued by the referee, but the visitors were nonetheless unable to take advantage of their numerical advantage,
a sign perhaps of organisational indecision and an associated and puzzling loss of confidence.
Individually several of Park’s players turned in good performances, but a better collective and confident team
effort will be called for in next week fixture at home to high flying neighbours Liverpool St.Helens (kick off 2.15pm)
