Controversial SAL Intermediate Final goes ahead at HSBC without The Green Men!!

If you have ever read VIZ magazine you will have laughed out loud at the antics of Major Misunderstanding who perpetually “got the wrong end of the stick” and caused chaos. For sure you will have laughed at Hugh Phemism who was unable to communicate in anything other than circumlocutory language leading to predictable misunderstanding. Put these two in a room with Joey Tribbiani from Friends and Patrick Star from SpongeBob Squarepants and you’ve got a Committee equipped to deliver the aforementioned chaos.

What’s going on, you might ask?
Where are today’s predictions?

Well here’s one prediction that is a certainty – our Reserves won’t be playing in the SAL Intermediate Cup Final at HSBC.

Alleyn OB Reserves will hopefully play Alexandra Park RESERVES!!! Unless, of course, AP play the four First team players who played against us in the Semi Final. You will recall that we lost 1 – 0 – there are always odd results in football and having our regular centre half Ollie Clark sent off after 50 minutes didn’t help our cause. All players know that losing in any sporting event is something that is inevitable – they accept that “you can’t win them all”.

BUT we hate playing on a slope – we want “a level playing field” then we can have no excuses. Why the result was not overturned by the SAL is inexplicable.

We hoped that the facts that we presented to the SAL and AFA would be sufficient to see the matter dealt with to our satisfaction. I asked my wife, who knows nothing about football, for her decision on the matter – she got it right – the other two bodies got it wrong.

We hope that today’s Final is a good game played in true amateur spirit and may the best side win.

Today I have asked Major Misunderstanding and Hugh Phemism to join me in predicting the WWFC results -- with these two on the panel we are bound to get them wrong.

The First team go to Old Owens not knowing what to expect as Owens shipped seven goals last week and we have only scored seven goals this year -- so a 0 – 0 draw is possible – but I doubt it. Maybe last week Owens had a “major misunderstanding” and sent their Reserves to Nottsborough. We could have played six of our First teamers in the Reserves this week but that would have been cheating – anyway Oli’s League title winners haven’t got a game so they play in the First team which is where they play every week. I think that I am getting used to this concept now. I think that we will win 5 – 0 – scorers to include Kennedy, Byrne, blond Ollie Clark (he always plays in the First team – just in case any Committee man is reading this blog) and “Jackdaw” Doyle. On the other hand (four fingers) - we may not.

The Threes travel West to play Old Actonians and I expect the League winners to win again. I hope that Seebs, Willy, Browney and Kempy score but they won’t – they deserve to end the season on a high note and there’s nothing better than scoring a goal in Acton. None of them have ever scored at Acton – a fact that applies to many other grounds but these guys are the cement that holds the squad together. Chris Eaden, Charlie Kallas and Eman all to notch – 3 – 0 to the Blueboods.

The Fours haven’t had a game for years so it’s no surprise that they haven’t got one today.

The Sixes are at home to Polytechnic and I think that they will win with Dan Butler certain to score. Jonesy and TP may score during the warm up – TP should score during the game as long as his hair doesn’t get in his eyes.

THE BIG GAME IS AT CORKSCREW HILL.
AFA FINAL – WWFC SEVENS v CROUCH END VAMPIRES

We have won the AFA Junior Novets Cup twice in recent years with the current squad and we have a fine chance of winning today although the Vampires will smell blood right from the kick off. A big crowd is expected at Corkscrew Hill and Crouch End will be made very welcome. PJ, Ollie Waite and John Waite all to score – don’t know how many though.
KICK OFF 3pm. Bring your sunglasses and plenty of money.
