West Wickham Reserves v Cray Wanderers Reserves Kick Off 1.30pm

The Reserves have always made a bold show in the Kent Intermediate Cup, now sponsored by Reliance, but we have never managed to reach the Final. Last season we had a really good chance but were eliminated via an inadvertent rule error after hammering FC Elmstead at Coney Hall.

On Saturday we have a chance to make a bit of history if we can knock out Isthmian League Club Cray Wanderers in the Semi Final.

The game is at Corkscrew Hill tomorrow at 1.30pm and our visitors, who ground share with Bromley FC, will be made very welcome. Cray are a very long established club (1860) but still have nowhere to call “home” although they are working hard to set up a ground at Flamingo Park.

In both of our previous Rounds we needed penalties to beat Rusthall Reserves and Corinthians Reserves – both games were away fixtures and we had to thank keeper Tayler Emblem for some fine penalty saves although our spot kicks were successful all bar one. So penalties will hold no fear for the Bluebloods.

Manager Oli Green has a full squad at his disposal and names himself as substitute keeper – at a push, he might play centre back which would mean less gel on his “barnet” but we all have to make big sacrifices to reach the top.

Adam Freeman returns after his skiing holiday in the highest Alps – personally I never went near those Black Runs and Jack Horgan was passed fit at training on Tuesday. The “Three Jays” are in top goal scoring form and I would bet that at least two of them score on Saturday.

Come along and support the boys – this is a Big Game and a win would herald some extraordinary feats of beer drinking.

The Threes also have a VIG against Old Thorntonians in the AFA Junior Cup Semi Final at Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields Ground which, with 42 letters, is probably the ground with the longest name in the World. I was told that Richardson Evans was a Welsh pirate who roamed the Irish Sea in the 16th Century – apparently he was unlucky enough to run into the Spanish Armada on its way to England – they clashed just south of Cork in 1588 and he met a watery grave – now he is immortalised as a football ground.

I am not 100% convinced that there is any truth in this story but maybe Manager Chris Tookey can authenticate it tomorrow. His squad is littered with quality, experienced players whose names have not been divulged to me as yet – this is all part of the Secret Plan to win the AFA Cup.

I am betting on a win, so no surprise there then, and we will have at least 4 separate scorers – no need to name them as they score every week. I reckon that we will take a few fans to this oasis in Roehampton. Mal Brown (Greg’s old man) has recovered from the shock of his son scoring recently and has been released from the Sanctuary – he told me that he will attend the Semi Final as there is no chance of a Browny Repeat.

Keeper Drew Simmonds doesn’t know where the back of the net is as he hasn’t been in it for ages. BCP could also notch –pen or header.

The Dynamic Duo have prepared the Fives for their AFA Cup Quarter Final with Actonians Association Fives . This will be tough match for Matt and Joe but Matt King should return to add some goal power to the squad and top German keeper Timo Hussman is back.

Father to be (and skipper) Joe Kallas will lead the team – he hasn’t been training recently and is now slower than his father Harri who has resumed physical activity after a gap of 32 years. HK has seen most of the Fives games this season and has been pestering me for a place in the squad. This week I have granted him his wish and he can have a place – on the far touchline.

The Sevens (aka The Vets) play Winchmore Hill Nines also in the AFA Cup at home. Geoff Airey and Barney Farmer have a strong squad (some of them can crush grapes with their bare hands) and should prevail with all the Waites, PJ and Large himself likely to score.

Macca takes the Fours to Carshalton intent on carrying on their winning streak. The home side got away with a point at our place which reminded me of tales about Dick Turpin and Robin Hood but they may be “a different kettle of fish” at Beddington Park. Inevitably I am, yet again, backing Joe Rahilly, George Rahilly and Harry Smith to score (provided that Harry’s testicles have recovered from last Saturday’s bashing).

Last week’s Big Raffle to win the top prize A Hot Shower at West Wickham was won by Danielle.
